Gain Weight the Natural Way

posted by Wilhelmina Gavin in Health

Some people are actually out there looking for ‘how to gain weight naturally’ guides. Despite all the obsession with skinny and slim people, some people are actually too thin for their own good.

Not all fats is downright bad for our body; not having fat can leave us lethargic and less energetic. Some skinny people may not be having the right kind of nourishment in their bodies and they can have minimal muscle mass, and are, thus, underweight.

If you think being skinny is sexy, think also about the possibility of malnutrition or body weakness. It’s definitely not an appealing thought. Which is why there are people who seek to gain weight in order to feel and look healthy.

There are a number of ways to make sure that you gain weight. Going to the gym is a golden method of doing so. Well, going to the gym and using the equipment, of course. Get on the internet and look up some exercises for each of your muscle groups: arms, legs, chest and the rest. Do them at least thrice a week, doing each exercise slowly to truly work the muscle groups.

Eat right as a complement to a good exercise. Muscles will not develop if you deprive your body of the needed vitamins and nutrients. Muscles will, likewise, not be created when you drown yourself with burgers and chicken; you’ll only get fat.

Another thing to look into is a concept called progressive resistance. Muscles grow according to the work that you do – no more, no less. This means that you gradually need bigger, heavier weights to gain bigger muscles.

Of course, gradually working towards heavier weights is the name of the game. Whenever you get comfortable exercising with your current set of weights, you gradually increase the weight as you progress.

As previously pointed out, exercise and good nutrition provides the right combination to gaining weight naturally. Never combine exercise with eating tons and tons of junk food or fatty foods, thinking it will speed up weight gain. Well, you’ll gain weight by it, yes, and end up being obese.

Eating fruits, lean meat and lots of protein is essential to gaining weight the natural and healthy way. They help develop and increase muscle mass to gain weight making you look more buffed and toned.

Know that there isn’t an instant solution to what you want. Like athletes, gaining muscle weight takes a lot of patience and hard work. Effects may be evident at the start but it will gradually become harder to see the results you desperately want.

Which is why you need to focus on a particular weight goal – it gives you something to achieve for. When you achieve that goal, continue to do what you’ve been working on to maintain what you have achieved. And be able to tell your tale on how to gain weight naturally.

Some Natural Anxiety Cures Worth Trying

posted by Mark Thompson in Health

Anxiety can have a detrimental effect on a person’s life. Not only can a person suffer from high blood pressure, they will find that the sleep very poorly and may suddenly start to gain weight rapidly. Luckily, there are things that one can do in order to beat anxiety through using only natural ingredients. Most natural anxiety cures are herbal based, but using certain vitamin and mineral extracts can help bring the condition under control.

Because the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) do not regulate either the sale, packaging or the effectiveness of these remedies you need to be careful what you buy. But although the FDA does not regulate the clinical trials which have been carried out on herbal remedies, you will still be able to find ones which have been tested and then proven to the right natural cure for dealing with anxiety.

One herbal remedy which has been found to be effective in not just treating anxiety but also sleeping disorders such as insomnia is Valerian Root. This particular herb contains properties which help a person to relax and comes either in capsule or tincture form. Normally one can get the capsules in sizes from 50 milligram up to 500 milligram and how much one takes will depend on the severity of their condition. Along with helping a person to relax the properties in Valerian Root also help in reducing a person’s stress levels therefore reducing the chances of an anxiety attack occurring.

There are many other medications which one can take for treating anxiety but often it will take some time before a person actually sees any positive results or effects on them. However, people who take Valerian Root often find that in some cases it has an immediate effect on the way that they feel. But for most people who take this form of herbal remedy they will not actually see any positive results until about 1/2 hour to an hour after they first took it.

It is important that before you purchase any hebal remedy for treating your anxiety you read the products label very carefully. You need to especially place close attention to what ingredients have been used in it. If you can look for those that include passion fruit flower extract in them. Contained within this extract is a chemical known as vitexin and this contains properties that can help to relieve tension. But as well as this property the vitexin also has anti-inflammatory and anti-histamic properties.

Of all the natural anxiety cures now available this is one that is widely available. However, if you are having difficulty in getting supplies from your local health food store then there are plenty of places where you will be able to purchase it online.

Before setting up your home laboratory and cooking your own proprietary blends, consult a doctor. Some herbal remedies have ingredients that not everyone can digest. If you are unable to digest all the ingredients of Valerian, it may cause night terrors, and abdominal pain.

Before you start using any kind of herbal based remedy for treating anxiety speak with your doctor to find out just how safe they are. Also you need to find out from your doctor that if you choose to take these along with any other medication that you are currently taking what affect they may have on them. Finally, it is crucial that when choosing any kinds of natural anxiety cures to use to treat your condition you look carefully at the ingredients each one contains. Plus you look just how much of each ingredient they contain as this will effect just how effective they are at treating the condition.

Good Cholesterol Foods – An Alternative Way To Reduce Cholesterol Level

posted by Brandon Hearts in Health

We hear them preached everywhere, every time.. Eat good cholesterol foods and reduce your figures. When it comes to cholesterol, we all know that there are “good” ones and “bad” ones, with HDL being the good type and LDL the bad type. The problem is how to stick with the good one and get rid of the bad one? It’s a rather complicated subject, so let’s start..

As bad as they may seem to be, cholesterol is actually very important for us humans. However, high levels of them in the bloodstream are seldom associated with stroke, heart disease and other cardivascular disease. What to be avoided on almost any condition is high LDL and low HDL. The LDL may become hardened and then forms plaques in your arteries, slowing or even blocking blood flow. HDL one the other hand, offers the ability to gather up excessive amount of LDL and carry it back to the liver.

Both LDL and HDL are formed in your body. You don’t actually eat them. Some foods known to contain cholesterol are dairy products, animal fat and eggs. Oils and fats coming from plants contain a substance almost similar to cholesterol, called phytosterols. They help to lower cholesterol level in human blood. Simple carbohydrates such as sugar and white flour, along with saturated fats and trans fats all contributes to high LDL production in your body.

Judging from the facts above, good cholesterol foods are foods coming from plants, because of the pythosterols in them. Other substances such as Omega-3 fats found in fish, and Canola oil are beneficial to your bodies as well.

A good diet for keeping LDL levels low would include lots of fruits and vegetables, whole grain foods, such as oatmeal and fish. Eating a bowl of oatmeal every day has been shown to reduce LDL levels.

When you do your cooking or baking, it’s much better to choose olive oil and canola oil instead of lard or saturated fat. Also, try to eat some nuts every day. It has been shown that eating certain nuts decreases risk of heart disease. So, these may be considered good cholesterol foods: pistachios, pecans, hazelnuts, walnuts, almonds, and peanuts. A daily serving of an ounce of any of these is recommended, unless you’re allergic to them, of course.

What you can also try is to replace your daily dose of coffee and soda with green tea instead. Green tea has been shown to have many health related benefit, lowering LDL level is one of them. If you need sweetener to go with it, stay away from processed sugar. Use honey or raw cane sugar.

Strive to include lots of different antioxidants in your diet. Cholesterols become a problem when they become oxidized into hard plaques. Antioxidants, such as those found in green tea, fruits and vegetables can help prevent cholesterol from turning into plaque.

If you can’t stop eating meat or poultry, choose lean cuts. If you can’t stop milk or other dairy products, choose reduced fat products made with skim or low-fat milk.

All in all, it’s not difficult at all to switch from your regular diet to good cholesterol foods. It’s just a matter of taking the right decision on what you eat.

Physical Therapy after Sports Injuries – Hockey

posted by Amy Nutt in Health

Hockey is a rather rough sport, so a lot of injuries can result. That is why you will often find physical therapists ready to take on the players after the game. For those who are injured more severely, they need ongoing physical therapy and massage therapy in order to heal from their injuries. It doesn’t matter whether the injury is to an arm, leg, the neck, or the back, physical therapy can literally help heal any ailment that a hockey player encounters. However, that also depends on the severity of the injury. If the injury is severe, physical therapy (and the right physical therapy equipment) can make it manageable.

Orthopedic injuries

For the hockey player, one of the most common sports injuries is orthopedic. This makes sense considering injuries that involve the muscles can affect the bones. This means that a physical therapist has to have the right physical therapy equipment to ensure they can change the bone system in order to heal the muscle that is damaged. The same goes for any injured ligaments and tendons that the physical therapist is focusing on. These individuals are trained to deal with the different injuries and the diverse nature of those they treat.

On the Ice

You will notice that there are physical therapists on the ice or in the locker room ready to take on any injuries that occur. This is because it is better that the injury is taken care of as soon as it happens. If the injury is allowed to sit and stew, then it can actually get worse. That is why it is not good for a hockey player to not disclose their injury. Sure, it is no fun to have to be taken out of the game, but worsening the injury simply means that healing will take that much longer.

In the locker room, physical therapists are available to take care of any joint, bone, muscle, ligament, and tendon issues that may occur, assuming they have the right physical therapy supplies. It is much better to have a physical therapist available to take care of any issues right after they occur. Then there are those athletes that have existing issues, so they need physical therapy administered right after physical activity in order to keep the issue from becoming worse.

Types of injuries

Physical therapy takes care of all sorts of injuries. One of the most common injuries is lateral epicondylitis, which is a minor muscle strain. Next to that are broken bones and fractures, which require the rebuilding of muscle in order to heal properly. This is why the physical therapist uses their eyes, their hands, and their physical therapy equipment to evaluate the joints, bones, and muscles of their patients. As stated before, everyone is different, but the physical therapist is trained to deal with these differences so that they can help their patient feel good by the time they are done working with them.

So if you are a hockey player who likes it rough and you have been injured a time or two, physical therapy is going to be a big help. If your team doesn’t have any physical therapists, but they have general physicians available, look into finding a physical therapist for your injuries. That way you can stay on the ice as long as possible. You’ll also feel a lot better after a physical therapy session due to the fact that physical therapists know how to manipulate the bones and muscles the correct way. Youll even notice that youll feel stronger when it is all said and done. This is something that is very important for your overall well-being and for your game.

Getting Troubled Teens Help

posted by Military Dan in Fitness

Many children today are constantly misbehaving and questioning their parents authority. This has become more and more common in today’s society. If you find yourself in this situation, have you thought about the role your child into a military style boot camp?

Military style boot camps have become more and more increasingly popular throughout the United States, because of their ability to help push kids back into a reality in which they belong. This kind of reality check is allowing kids to pursue a normal and healthy life, as opposed to eating themselves into their own self-destruction.

Military style boot camps will not only offer a short term solution to your child’s problems, but will offer a long-term solution as well. Boot camps that only last a few weeks, however will only produce a short-term effect. For this reason long-term boot camps are popping up all over the United States, and proving good results.

Boot camps modeled after military style training offer just that, military style training. This kind of training provides teenagers with a military background and discipline, exercise, training, and allows them to focus on respect and responsibility. These tactics have proved to help keep children from ending up in jail, prison, or an alternative schooling system.

A boot camp may be exactly what your child needs, and help get your childs life back on track before its too late. The skills and manners your child will learn at a boot camp can and will be carried with them throughout their life time. Do not wait, if your child needs help, enroll them today.

Has an Injury Caused Your Vertigo?

posted by Christian Goodman in Health

Many of my clients write to me telling me they suffer from vertigo – the sensation of dizziness or whirling. They are very interested in knowing the causes and what treatments are available.

I am proud to be able to offer my Vertigo and Dizziness program, which has helped a great number of people. Along with the great feedback about my program, people have also shared their personal stories associated with suffering from vertigo.

Some people experience vertigo due to a closed head injury such as a car accident. This is when the brain is injured but not due to an object that actually penetrates the area (such as a bullet wound.)

Between twenty-five and sixty percent of those who’ve suffered a closed-head injury have experienced vertigo – dizziness or a whirling sensation. The number could actually be higher but vertigo as a result of injury is difficult to diagnose.

One reason is that with a closed-head injury, the patient oftentimes doesn’t associate it with vertigo because the injury which caused it was minor – he or she was able to “walk away” with little to no side effects.

Most closed-head injuries show no sudden symptoms. Vertigo, like other brain injury symptoms are gradual.

One client told me she had been misdiagnosed several times before a doctor was able to properly identify her condition.

After taking many medications and suffering from many side effects of those medications, she was finally asked about any recent head traumas and was finally diagnosed correctly.

I am not one to take medicine unless absolutely necessary. I believe in natural healing. This said, I also believe a proper diagnosis of a closed-head injury is best left only to doctors.

Screening available for risk of fall is easy and affordable.

If vertigo as a result of closed-head injury is your diagnosis, don’t worry needlessly. Unlike other forms of vertigo, this is the most common to recover from.

Regardless of the type of vertigo from which you suffer, I would like to recommend my all-natural Vertigo and Dizziness program. My clients have seen dramatic results!

In what Manner does Huperzine A Push up Memory?

posted by Bryan Reese in Health

Huperzine A originated as a Chinese remedy to cure inflammation and fever. Many studies have found much better and improved use of this medicine over the time. Huperzine A is an herbal medicine. It is a plant alkaloid extracted from the club moss found mostly in China. The alkaloid from this plant is isolated, which is responsible for enhancing and boosting memory power. It has been used especially for the memory lost and dementia treatment in Alzheimer’s disease.

Scientific studies also indicated that alkaloid prevents acetylcholine breakdown and inhibits the responsible enzymes. It is stated that Huperzine A is the most beneficial and safest memory booster for memory insufficiency.

Other Beneficial Uses:

After several tests, expert scientists recommended Huperzine A for either treating dementia or general memory improvement. Huperzine A has the potential to boost memory power as well. Huperzine A blocks the acetylcholinesterase enzyme temporarily. This enzyme is usually concentrated in the brain, red blood cells and spinal cord.

By helping the many important neurotransmitters, Huperzine A helps the brain to work better because these neurotransmitters are very important for relaying messages between nerve cells and other cells. It is a widely known fact that acetylcholine is extremely helpful in memory based functions such as learning, memorizing, thinking and remembering as well as considerably diminishing low memory functions.

Huperzine A has a two level approach where it stops acetylcholine from breaking down too much while at the same time reduces the different acetylcholinesterase functions and ensures that the brain receives a proper supply of blood. By doing this, it aids acetylcholine to save and energize memory power. Various amounts of research has been conducted on people who suffer from some form of memory impairment and it has been found that using Huperzine A has led to various benefits such as lowering the effects of dementia. It has also markedly helped those who suffer from Alzheimer’s by building up their memory power.

Furthermore, under controlled conditions some people suffering from brain related disorders were given Huperzine A, around 200 micrograms two times a day, every day. When these people were tested after a few days, it was found that these people were now much more fitter physically and they had become mentally agile too. The physiological and psychological tests revealed a marked improvement of 43 to 70%.

One myth about Huperzine A is that it is only beneficial for old aged people, which is false, as Huperzine A also benefits youngsters. It is proved that Huperzine A increases memory power of people falling in any age group.

Also, Huperzine A can help in bettering the remembering abilities of young people considerably. As part of an experiment, some young pupils who faced problems in remembering things and did not have very good memory were given a double dose of 150 mg of Huperzine A. It was found that the students had improved considerably in the areas mentioned above.

In fact, it was also found that Huperzine A had a very good effect on remembering things in the short term. Yet, scientists feel that it is best if people consume Huperzine A only after a doctor has advised them. A higher dosage than is required could lead to problems of all nature.

Therefore, physicians have consistently reminded us not to take Huperzine A more often in the course of a week. A lot of people feel that Huperzine A is relatively harmless especially in circumstances where Alzheimer’s has created havoc and people face problems in remembering things. When people tend to forget things easily because of advancing age, then physicians usually suggest a dose of 100 or 200 mg which should be consumed two times in a day.

Overview:

Finally, due to all these advantages, Huperzine A is proving to become one of the leading herbal drugs used to boost memory power in countries such as America, Europe, and many Asian countries.

How To Slow Down Your ADD Brain

posted by gabriel monroe in Health

If you are a grown up person having ADD, then you may be familiar that at times, slowing down is a very difficult thing to do. There are a lot of jobs to get done and so little time to get them completed. So your mind starts working in a high speed, trying to achieve it all and more, or getting upset about the actuality that it look as if it is not viable to get it all completed. As a result, you use up a lot of time constantly worrying, and very little time getting pleasure from life.

While slowing down is a complex ability to put up, it can be made. Here are 6 established methods to slow down the adult ADD brain:

1. Put down Work

Fix up your business hours and stand by them. Even though at times it is essential to work overtime, do not do it if not you just have to. You will work more competently during the day when the time you have to complete your job is fixed. And take a break on weekends ” or at least 2 days a week. You ought to have it.

2. Arrange for a Night out with Others

Nothing is more enjoyable than having a night out with people you like. This may well be with colleagues, friends, family, or members of a group you are a part of. Have a good time.

3. Make a Weekly Oblgation (Like Taking a Class or Involving Yourself in a Group)

Find a reason to go out of the house and out of the office each week. Attend a class, if possible to learn something you for all time wanted to know how to do. Make certain that you *pay* for the class beforehand so you will not be coaaxed to miss it out.

4. Diary

Maintaining a diary compels you to stop, think over and act out. It aids you to deal with nervous tension and achieve clearness. Formulate the resolution to do it every day – even if it is merely for 10 minutes! Do not be bothered about sentence structure, syntax, punctuation, or flow since no one else ever has to see it.

5. Meditate

There are a lot of diverse methods of meditation, but I have a preference for mindfulness meditation. This is merely the action of being there in the present instant – whether you are working, walking, or washing the dishes. Make an effort to keep your mind in the instant, and do not tag on worrying or troublesome feelings when they come up. It is all right to start on little by little, with 5 minutes spent in mindful meditation daily, and after that building on your performance as you happen to be more at ease.

6. Switch off Your Computer 2 Hours before Bed

Computers are rather interesting, in particular for ADDers. Freequently at times, you will find yourself sitting at your computer at 3 o’clock in the morning completely occupied in exploring something totally arbitrary. You just cannot move away from the pc and go to bed, and that is for the reason that the computer stimulates your brain. Switch the pc off at least two hours prior to going to sleep so as to suitably relax, and slow down, at night.

The Power Of Honey For Aging Skin

posted by Marianne E.Arnesson in Health

Gradually, through the aging process our skin sets off on a downward spiral and eventually the loss of vitality and suppleness in our skin becomes more apparent.Using honey for aging skin holds out some hope for those who hope to hold out in the battle against aging.

Using honey in the fight against aging skin certainly has caught the imagination of a lot of people but is it not possible to get these benefits somewhere else. It is actually possible to reap the rewards of the honey without actually using honey itself but you need to know where to look.

It is in its role as an anti-oxidant that the massive advantages of honey come to the fore. An anti-oxidant helps the body to deal with the impact of free radicals. Free radicals are linked to some major health issues but are also very much linked to the appearance of wrinkles and the gradual deterioration of your skin condition in general.

Just as iron begins to rust when exposed to oxygen, free radicals cause our skin to oxidize. Antioxidants such as honey and other ingredients help to fight these free radicals.

Honey also does wonders in helping to replenish our bodies levels of collagen and elastin. These are responsible for our skins flexibility, firmness, thickness, and structure. As we age, our body loses it’s ability to replenish these proteins properly.

Keeping the production of collagen and elastin at the requisite levels is essential for firm, supple skin and honey is excellent for this. Honey, however,is not the only answer tothis problem of creating collagen and elastin.

Although this has been used for centuries as a beauty aide, we are lucky enough to live in a day and age where science is able to understand the exact processes that our body goes through as well as the necessary proteins, hormone, and vitamins and nutrient levels the body needs. Our understanding of aging and the physical body has grown by leaps and bounds over the last twenty years.

This is where it has become a blessing to live in the modern day and age. By looking at time tested methods for health and beauty, we can begin to understand what these age old methods do to our body in order to maintain a youthful appearance.

We can now reproduce the effects of honey for aging skin without actually using honey. We get all the benefits without the mess in only a fraction of the time it would previously taken.

The best diet for successful weight loss

posted by Lyle Neander in Weight Loss

When we read the paper or a magazine we might be challenged to ask the question “What is the best diet to help me lose weight?” Never a week goes by without a new diet launched on television or in the newspaper. They seem to proliferate in women’s magazines which compete to find the most weird or “celebrity-driven”. But do they work? For most of us that is all that matters. Let’s look at the different diets and see if we can work out a diet that will work for most of us.

Most diets can be categorized into several categories. The past fifteen to twenty years have seen the rise and fall of low fat diets. This diet was popularized by Nathan Pritikin who used it to overcome his heart disease issues. It was successful because it reduced the intake of all fats to an extreme level and this forced the body to cannibalize the existing fat in the body for energy. Eventually this extended to the arteries and cardiovascular system and the arthrosclerosis in the arteries disappeared as the body ate up all the cholesterol. It was hugely popular and let to the argument that reducing the fat in our diets must the key to weight loss. They forgot that weight loss was a side effect of Pritikins diet, not the reason for it.

The problem is that it assumes all calories are equal and the body treats all calories the same, and it doesn’t. Protein is digested and broken down into amino acids used to rebuild muscles and skin. The four calories does not contribute one iota to your overall body fat content. Likewise fat is used to absorb vitamins and minerals and the excess is simply flushed out of the system via the liver and gall bladder. Too much fat may contribute to heart disease but there is clear evidence that this only happens in the presence of too many carbohydrates. Carbohydrates are the dietary evil making us fat as will be clearer later.

Another category of diet is the famous food-combining diets so often favored by Hollywood stars (who can afford the luxury of finding the right foods and combining them to lose weight). The argument is that the different foods act in concert to produce unusual weight loss because they enhance each others effects. It is really questionable and no true dietician advocates them. They fall into the fad diet category.

Food-combining diets that have been made popular by Hollywood stars is another category of diet. Hollywood stars can afford the luxury of finding the right foods and combining them to lose weight. The rest of us eat normal foods and have household budgets. The diet is based on the argument that different foods work in concert to produce unusual weight loss as they enhance each others effects. It is really questionable and no true dietician advocates them. I think they fall into the fad diet category but some swear by them.

Fad diets come in all shapes and sizes and we all recognize them when we see them. If it feels weird, it probably is. Let your common sense be your guide.

Finally we come to the popular low carbohydrate diets popularized by the Atkins Diet. Dr Robert Atkins worked on existing research of doctors who had studied the insulin response of the body to carbohydrate intake. Through the research he discovered that when we digest carbohydrates our blood sugar levels rise. The more quickly we digest carbohydrates, the quicker the rise in blood sugar. The body reacts to this rise in blood sugar by releasing insulin which binds with the blood sugar and converts it into glycogen to be stored in the liver. If the liver’s glycogen store is full the body stores it as adipose tissue, more commonly known as fat. High blood sugar is bad for the body so maintaining a steady blood sugar is vital for good health. Unfortunately when we eat highly processed carbohydrates such as sugar, our blood sugar levels spike and we overproduce insulin to correct the problem. Our blood sugar levels plummet and we are immediately hungry again. So we eat again and so the cycle perpetuates itself.

Atkins proposed that severely restricting carbohydrate intake would force the body to go to its own store of energy, its stored fat reserves. And the Atkins Diet was born. He also deduced from research that high sugar levels in the bloodstream contributed to heart disease far more than fats in the diet. This information was proven in research many years before the mistakes that led to the low fat diet. Many people found in the Atkins Diet a savior and they have adopted the diet as a long term lifestyle. For them this was the best diet.

The Atkins diet is very effective from personal experience, but many dieters found the first month just too hard. The Atkins Diet is quite strict to begin with and for these people an alternative was needed to help them lose the weight without the strict self discipline the Atkins Diet required. They needed a diet that worked in the real world without the time and effort the Atkins Diet needed. The best diet should include food, exercise and a meal planner to help make life easier. It should not need us to carefully count every gram of carbohydrate and protein and fat that passes our lips. You see food, selected correctly can be our greatest ally in losing weight. Some foods rich is proteins take more energy to burn than they yield. Also proteins help build muscle which is essential for weight loss. A good weight loss program will educate as to which foods to avoid and which to include, correct portion size and eating habits.

The best diet will provide information on an exercise program that gets us moving and kickstarts the fat burning. Sensible and regular exercise is central to any effective and successful diet. When combined with sensible eating and dietary information it put us on the road to successful weight loss. To qualify as the best diet program it must include a meal planner which gives you meal suggestions and prepares a shopping list for the week’s food. Using the meal planner you don’t have to spend the day worrying about what you are going to eat that day. Weight loss and worrying about what you are going to eat at every meal is mutually exclusive. The meal planner lets you get on with life and stop thinking about food.

So if you are looking for the best diet look at the programs that include a good balance of foods, from the different food groups and not unbalanced on their avoidance of any one group. Also look for a good exercise program included that will work for you and a meal planner is a must. Good luck is just a matter of research, commitment and dedication. The more committed you are, I bet the luckier you become.
