Do you know how the lowly acai berry can help you lose weight?

posted by Bart Forcey in Weight Loss

Acai berries are a special gift – a unique fruit loaded full of anti-oxidants, minerals, vitamins, and other substances shown to help aid weight loss and enforce nutrition. The possibilities for health benefits from the berry are numerous. Fresh, powdered, encapsulated or freeze dried, you should be able to find the right kind of acai berry supplement for you. Each way still retains most of the health benefits, thought he freeze dried kind can be more concentrated. If you’re just starting to take them, however, simply start with whichever form feels right to you.

While the acai berry offers many great benefits, one of the most well-known and important benefits is the ability of the berry to lower cholesterol. Taken on a regular basis, the acai berry can be a powerful way to reduce cholesterol levels quickly and effectively. For individuals who prefer natural alternatives, the acai berry may be a viable way to lower cholestrol.

The acai berry is useful in helping to rid the body of dangerous toxins, and thus reducing inflammation in the organs by increasing oxidation in the body. They also aid the digestive system and ridding your body of bad substances called xenobiotics. The acai berry can help to destroy these xenobiotics and improve the function of mind and body. Another valuable acai berry benefit may prove to be its ability to improve eyesight due to the berry’s naturally concentrated vitamin and mineral composition.

Acai berry can be used to treat systemic problems like sleep disruptions and arthritis. Sufferers who have taken acai berry everyday have reported less pain from their arthritis. People with sleep disorders have also found relief in a daily dose. Though the results here are less clear, many use it to recover from minor injuries.

The benefits from taking acai berry go beyond physical improvements, and can also help you be happier and more intelligent. Traditionally, acai berry has been taken to treat depression, as well as maladies in the nervous system and hormonal imbalances.

Perhaps the most popular acai berry benefits are the ones that promote weight loss in individuals that take the berries on a daily basis. The acai berry acts as a natural colon cleanse, which eliminated excess water weight and toxins from the body allowing you to drop pounds quickly. Other acai berry benefits include its ability to act as an appetite suppressant, and to speed up the metabolism. When your appetite is suppressed you eat less, and the food that you do eat is burnt up more quickly when your metabolic rate is heightened.

Acai berry benefits are many and highly effective. It is little wonder that the acai berry is quickly becoming known as a miracle supplement. When acai berries are consumed on a regular basis, many physical, mental, and emotional benefits can be gained.

Learn From Your Grout Cleaning Mistakes

posted by Rick Amorey in Health

Everyone makes mistake every now and then, and that’s alright. What’s wrong is if you don’t learn from the mistake you made. If you disregard the lesson, then you’ll most likely make the same error again in the future. When you clean your home, once a cleaning practice you have tried proves to be ineffective, it?s time to abandon it for something that works.

Many of us fall prey to a very easy mistake, the reason being that a lot of us are very busy these days. Even if you get to clean your house, you may not still be doing it as often as you need to. Chances are you really don’t think you need to; this is a common way of thinking among the single, young people, as they don’t normally spend that much time inside their homes. But if you want to relax, how will you do so in a cluttered, dirty place?

Besides, the longer it takes for you to clean your home, then the more time will there be for harmful organisms to breed. The grout in between your tiles is perhaps the most susceptible to this unwanted growth. And to make matters worse, the longer grout stays dirty, the harder it becomes to clean it.

Learn from the mistakes you have made and make it a habit to routinely clean the grout in your home. Scrub brushes will do little when dirt and grime have settled in grout, way beyond their reaches. A once a week cleaning will do just fine, as I personally set aside an hour every weekend to perform a check on my grout.

Before you can learn from your mistakes, though, you must undo the consequences that happened as a result of it. To that end, you must clean that dirty grout in your home. But how would you do it, if all the unpleasant particles have already settled in beneath the surface? In times like this, the best way to deal with it is to call professional grout cleaners. Once the slate is clean, you can begin the task of maintaining it undaunted.

Why You Tested By Insurance Companies Before Getting Insured.

posted by Don Bethune in Health

Insurance companies require people to obtain a medical examination before it would agree to cover you. These medical examinations carried out by paramedics, who are licensed health professionals. Some of the medics working under contracts for the insurance companies, and come to your home to conduct such tests. Test the second step, which usually comes after you have filled in the medical questions on Part I, or as called by some insurance companies Part A of the insurance policy.

This medical examination carried out either at home or in the office and necessary for those who seek life insurance coverage. There is also a possibility that the insured requests that you provide them with the attending physician statement. This statement is made by the personal doctor.

Exam consists of basic and semi-physical measurements of weight and height, pulse, blood pressure, blood and urine sample. Some insurance companies may require you to go to the doctor of their choice for this test, but fortunately it was in a cover all expenses for these tests. During the test may also be required to fill the ambulance.

Depending on the age of the person may need to do cardio exercise, such as running on treadmills. This is mainly for the elderly, who do not want to have millions of dollars worth. Warts, Moles, Skin Tags appear on the skin. There are ways to control and get rid of them Naturally

posted by Conrad Blomberg in Health

A WART is a small, rough tumor, typically on hands and feet, but often on other locations

A wart can resemble a cauliflower or a solid blister. Warts are common, and are caused by a viral infection, specifically by the human papillomavirus (HPV) and are contagious when in contact with the skin of an infected person.

It is also possible to get warts from objects used by an infected person, such as towels or other objects. Warts typically disappear after a few months, but can last for years and can recur.

There are approximately 100 strains of human papilloma viruses. Types 1, 2, and 3 cause most of the common warts.

Type 1 is associated with deep plantar (sole of the feet) and palmar warts (palm of the hand).

Type 2 are what cause common warts, filiform warts, plantar warts, mosaic plantar warts.

Type 3 cause plane warts, more commonly known as flat warts

MOLES. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, almost all moles appear during the first two decades of a persons life. About one in every 100 babies is born with moles.

Congenital moles are considered a minor malformation and may indicate a higher risk for melanoma. A mole can be either subdermal (under the skin) or a pigmented growth on the skin. These moles are formed of a type of cell known as a melanocyte.

The high concentration of the bodys pigmenting agent, melanin, is responsible for their dark color. Moles are a member of the family of skin lesions known as nevi.

In the 1950s and 60s (and, to lesser extent, currently) a facial mole was known as a “beauty mark” when it appeared in certain areas on a womans face. Examples include Marilyn Monroe, model Cindy Crawford, singer Madonna, and the fictional Ms. Pac-Man.

Madonna’s facial mole”below her right nostril”has been surgically removed. Almost everyone with light skin has at least one or two moles somewhere on their body. Large numbers can be concentrated on the back, chest, and arms. Darker skin shades, however, tend to have fewer moles.

SKIN TAGS. A Skin Tag, is a small benign tumor that forms primarily in areas where the skin forms creases. These include such areas as the neck, armpit, and groin.

Skin Tags can sometimes occur on the face, usually on the eyelids. Though larger have been seen, they range between the size of a grain of rice and a golf ball. The surface of a skin tag may be smooth or irregular in appearance. It is often raised from the surface of the skin on a stalk called a peduncle.

Since Skin Tags also contain nerve cells, they cannot be painlessly removed. Patients report that the removal of a skin tag is similar to a strong pinch on a sensitive area.

Skin tags are harmless. However, they are sometimes irritated by clothing or jewelry and may interfere with shaving and other routine grooming.

Why and how skin tags form is not entirely known, but there are correlations with age and obesity. They are also more common in people with diabetes mellitus and in pregnant women.

The Significance Of Childhood Immunisation

posted by Kate Gerbich in Health

It is extremely significant to stop diseases from spreading. Numerous decades before, it was almost not possible to imagine having vaccination against some injurious sicknesses like polio or measles for newly born babies. At the present, all the newly born children are given vaccines against some sicknesses in order to help them develop immunity against these sicknesses.

Vaccines are very important in keeping people healthy. If you are immunised for some disease, you cannot get that disease through any means. This is quite useful since it means that if everyone is vaccinated for a certain disease, the world will be free of that disease forever.

There are, nonetheless, people who say that it is not needed to vaccinate babies against ailments. This is an exceedingly unreasonable argument, because medical research has proved all over the world that vaccine administration has no detrimental effect on the baby. In fact, Vaccines have really helped in decreasing the occurrences of polio, mumps, tetanus, whooping cough, diphtheria, and HIB.

While it is true that newborn babies are immune to many diseases because of antibodies that they get from their mother, however, this immunity only lasts almost about one year. After this time they will not be immune, and simple contact with another person who has the disease can make them fatally ill. Furthermore, maternal immunity does not extend to all kinds of illnesses.

In the past, children died all over the world because of illnesses that are now preventable because of the vaccines we give them. If we did not have vaccines, children would still be dying from diseases like whooping cough, which are at this point almost been wiped out due to immunisation.

Furthermore, children lack the immunity against several diseases unlike grown-ups who are less likely to fall ill compared to the children. Since children are weaker, they catch all diseases faster, which is why it is extremely important for them to be vaccinated when they are still young.

Immunisation is also important, because it slows down the spreading process of the disease. For example, polio is still present in some third world countries, but because the majority of the children are immunised against it, it is not present that much in the community. With fewer people immunised, it would be much more prevalent.

Last but not the least, immunising children thwarts them from spreading the disease to other individuals. There are individuals who cannot be immunised, e.g. those too young, people suffering from leukaemia, or those that do not build up immunity after vaccination. If no one was vaccinated, then the probability that these individuals would get the ailment would be much higher.

Jump higher and soar over the basketball court

posted by Lynn Lopez in Fitness

In sports, being stronger and doing things faster and higher are always good things that could most certainly secure a victory for you. After all, how many sports victories were won by the slowest, least capable participant? Basketball is one particular sport that requires a number of skills, but one of the skills that will give you an advantage over the other players is if you can jump higher than any of them. Remember how “His Airness” Michael Jordan would sail through the air and make a winning shot? Jumping higher in basketball guarantees that you can sink a basket that many other players would probably find impossible to do and maybe even win you the game.

Unfortunately, coaches don’t exactly teach you how to jump higher in basketball, which is why you should undertake some additional exercises to train yourself to jump higher. Jumping requires the use of your leg muscles, so increasing their strength and agility is your priority. When you teach yourself how to jump higher in basketball, always ensure that you don’t overdo it or you might risk getting an injury. Always start with the proper warmups exercises to condition your muscles for the entire set of workouts for your legs.

Some exercises can help tone you up and make you jump higher. Doing a series of squats can help strengthen your legs and help make sure that you can carry your body weight in your legs when you push yourself down and propel your body upward when you jump. Jumping exercises are a staple of any basketball training session; all you need to do is to crouch or squat down then launch yourself into a vertical jump. Various jumping rope exercises can also increase your legs’ muscle power, as these can develop your calf muscles.

There is also a set of exercises called plyometrics that you can do. Plyometrics involves movements performed in a rapid sequence to ensure that the muscles of the body lengthen and contract as quickly as possible; one of the main goals of plyometrics is to enable a person to jump higher. Keep in mind, however, that plyometrics is best performed by athletes in good physical condition while under supervision.

These are just some of the exercises you can do in order to jump higher in basketball–or in any sport, for that matter. Remember to pace yourself when doing the exercises and don’t expect to see results in a flash. Try to ask your coach or trainer to develop a training program that can improve your leg muscle strength and help you jump higher.

Avoiding Childhood Obesity Begins at Home

posted by Dave Owen in Weight Loss

It is of concern how often families nowadays trust the education system to instruct their youngsters all kinds of things other than just reading, writing and arithmetic. Many parents place the responsibility for avoiding childhood obesity on the shoulders of the school board as well, thinking that gym classes and nutrition had better be a piece of the school’s curriculum so that children can stay fit and healthy. This is an extremely shortsighted position by parents and one that is a surefire recipe for tragedy. To fight childhood obesity and to keep children healthy and ablee-bodied, there must be modifications made in the home first and foremost.

One of the reasons that parents can’t trust the school systems to accept this is that many school systems just can’t offer gym courses the way they once did. Our schools are usually overcrowded now days so the gymnasium needs to perform as the lunchroom for more hours than ever before. Without daily physical exercise, childhood obesity is an almost certainty. And just educating a child about calories and fat and nutritional content of food doesn’t mean that he or she is going to avoid junk food and fast food as well! Just knowing about these things isn’t motivation enough to assist a child make the choices needed to avoid childhood obesity.

A parent’s illustration and what happens in the home is probably a better indication of whether or not childhood obesity will be avoided. Children generally acquire life style options and attitudes from their parents whether they’re aware of it or not. Parents that are active and that always have something to do will likely raise children that are active and busy as well. Those parents that sit on the couch each evening and on the weekends may find childhood obesity a problem in their own home. This is because children are learning to be sedentary and inactive. When a parent takes the effort to prepare meals that are simple but nutritious a child will learn to value nutritious food and to take the extra time and effort necessary to prepare such dishes. But when a parent is constantly falling back on drive-through meals and other poor dietary options, a child may learn that such food is satisfactory. This also may lead to cases of childhood obesity in the home.

Parents too can set limits with their children when they’re with them to assist avoid childhood obesity. No one can altogether control their child when they’re on their own, but serving only nutritious meals and snacks when a child is home will decrease any damage they’re doing by eating junk at every other time! A lot of cases of childhood obesity are also associated to inactiveness during the day and evening. So parents can plan times to go to a zoo, aquarium, or other places where everybody walks around. Other way to help avert childhood obesity by biking, walking, playing catch, playing Frisbee, setting up a badminton net, or other activities that involve all the family members.

As a parent, you must take responsibility for the health of your child. This includes making sure that he/she gets proper nutrition along with adequate exercise. Without this, they may become oe of the many kids that are falling thru the cracks into obesity.

Laser Therapy Helps Faster Patient Recovery

posted by Susan Snailcomb in Health

Since lasers have been invented, medicine took a giant leap forward. Surgery is less painful and the scars heal much faster with modern laser methods. Patients need less hospitalization days.

All those popular beliefs that laser burns and it may generate cancer are false, so more and more people realize the advantages of laser surgery. Vision correction is much easier and less risky for the patient when lasers are used.

There are many areas where lasers are used: microdermabrasion, acne scars removal, stretchmarks removal, or even eye surgery. Eyes are delicate because if their nerve is touched during an operation, the patient will lose sight. Laser procedures are more precise, so the risk is much lower.

Scientists never stop researching. Their goal is to increase the number of laser treatments available. Unfortunately, prices are not so small, so not all people afford laser treatments. However, if you make decent money, you can save for medical purposes.

If you can find health insurance to cover your laser vision correction, it is very unlikely that you’ll find coverage for your hair removal, too. The answer I’m about to give you may or may not surprise you. It’s not considered a medical emergency.

These types of laser hair removal are the most popular today: laser comb, Hairmax, diode laser and Pulsed Light laser. I expect most laser treatments users know the value of having laser comb. I want to avoid being reactive about this.

Over the past decade, lasers became more and more popular, as the technology manufacturing costs decreased. We can now find such laser devices in all corners of the globe, on all continents. Well, maybe at the North Pole they don’t have any, but still, having laser surgery became a common thing these days.

With new scientific discoveries, we expect such treatments to become even more affordable in the years to come. If we only think at how fast the prices of computers are decreasing from one year to the other, we see that mass laser therapy is not such a far away dream.

Preventing osteoporosis – take action now

posted by Epilepsy Pro in Health

Because anti-epileptic drugs affect the way calcium is metabolized by the body, women with epilepsy are advised to think about their long-term bone health from the word go. Women in general, who have a one-in-three chance of developing osteoporosis (thinning bones) in later life, are advised not to wait until their fifties but to start taking action in their thirties when the skeleton is still forming. For the woman with epilepsy, though, this could be a concern which starts with drug treatment. Osteoporosis in the UK affects 3 million and causes more than 200,000 fractures a year, around 40 of which a day prove fatal. If you’re concerned, you could contact the National Osteoporosis Society for further advice; and a bone density scan is available on the NHS to all at high risk of osteoporosis.

Meanwhile, healthy habits to carry you through into old age include looking after your diet, exercise, and menstrual health, as well as avoiding dangers.

Diet. Apart from following general healthy eating guidelines, the key nutrient is calcium, which builds and maintains bones. The best sources are dairy products such as milk, cheese and yoghurt – low-fat varieties generally contain as much calcium as full-fat ones. Other good sources are bony fish such as sardines, tofu, watercress, nuts, seeds, carbonated water, baked beans, and dried fruit such as figs. Calcium supplements are also available, but discuss this with your doctor first – on the whole, calcium is best absorbed with food, and as part of a varied, balanced diet. You also need vitamin D to help you absorb calcium; around 80 per cent of our intake comes from daylight, but it is also found in full-fat dairy products, fortified cereals, margarine and low-fat spreads, oily fish such as salmon, tuna and fish liver oil, and eggs.

The right exercise. Bones stay strong by being used. Weight-bearing exercise is best, which means anything which loads bones, such as aerobics, dancing, jogging, ball sports, and brisk walking. Studies show a significant difference between those who took little exercise and those who walked seven miles a week – that’s half an hour a day outdoor exercise. Don’t overdo it, as very intensive training may weaken bones, especially if you’re not eating enough -athletes and dancers are at high risk of osteoporosis.

Periods. Anything which impairs periods needs attention because the sex hormones are the most important factor in osteoporosis, and if you diet to excess you can lose your periods. This can apply to normally ’slim’ women as well as women with anorexia if periods are light or missed. However, this can be more difficult for women with epilepsy who are more prone to irregular periods. Make sure you eat a healthy, regular diet, and again consult your doctor for further help.

Avoid dangers. Dangers include common health enemies such as smoking, too much alcohol and too much caffeine from tea, coffee and cola, which can all deplete bone density. Fizzy drinks are high in phosphorous, which can upset the body’s calcium balance. Laxatives and bran fibre can increase your loss of calcium and other nutrients. Finally, stress, as well as triggering seizures, can also be bad for bones as it causes the release of adrenaline into the body, and too much adrenaline has a harmful dissolving effect on bone.
