Hemorrhoids result from inflammation and swelling of the veins in your posterior region. They can cause much pain and itch and general discomfort. 75% of Americans have had hemorrhoids.

Generally, while uncomfortable, they are treatable before reaching a serious stage. However, occasionally the hemorrhoids will get worse and begin to bleed. Normally this occurs after a bowel movement. Hemorrhoids can form on the outside of the anus and then can bleed. Hemorrhoids can also occur inside the rectum, and while these generally don’t feel painful, they still bleed.

However, there are methods to end the bleeding of hemorrhoids.

1) Ointments – Make use of a hemorrhoid liniment, cream, oil or gel. These can be obtained at many stores. The pain will be less, and the hemorrhoids will be assisted in shrinking by the ointment. The bleeding will stop if you do this.

2) Baths – Soak in a warm tub. 3 to 4 inches of lukewarm water is enough. Bring up your knees so the water can flow to your anus. Doing this helps the blood to flow, in the process shrinking hemorrhoids.

3) Cleanliness – Always practice good hygiene for the anus and rectum area. Make washing with soap and water a regular habit. This is really important after a bowel movement. This will help to keep the area clean and reduce the chance of infection.

4) Fluids – It is critical to do all you can to prevent getting constipation. If you can drink eight glasses of water at a minimum daily, you will help your stools stay loose. Hemorrhoids can be made to bleed by stools that are hard, so this is important.

5) Fiber – Fiber plays a very significant role in stopping the bleeding from hemorrhoids. Your stools will be loose and bulkier with fiber. Constipation will also be prevented. Dietary fiber may be obtained by consuming whole grains and plenty of veggies.

6) Ice packs – On the area of your rectum, place an ice pack. For 15 to 20 minutes each time, just sit on the ice. This way the swelling goes down and in the process the hemorrhoids will also shrink. The bleeding from the hemorrhoids will be stopped by this.

7) Witch Hazel – Thoroughly clean the anus and rectum area before using Witch Hazel. Make the Witch Hazel bottle ice cold by putting it in ice. Put a little Witch Hazel on a ball of cotton and place it on the rectal area. Bleeding stops and pain is relieved when doing this shrinks the hemorrhoids.

Always see your doctor if you happen to see blood in your stool or on the toilet paper. There are other, much more serious afflictions that can cause bleeding. Better be thorough and make sure that hemorrhoids are not the only culprit. The determination can be made by your doctor for further examination for cancer of the rectum or any other problem that may be underlying.

If the determination of your physician is that the hemorrhoids are causing the bleeding, then he can determine if they are bad enough to require the discussion of surgical measures. Hemorrhoids that are bleeding can be treated at home, in many cases. If you apply the methods listed above, the bleeding should cease. And they will also help to control the hemorrhoids.
